Mindful

Are you engaging your glutes? Are your shoulders back and down, away from your ears? Are you breathing properly? What do you want to accomplish? Each exercise targets a particular muscle or groups of muscles. Are you aware of these specific muscles being engaged? We have to be mindful of what we are doing when we workout.

What a powerful reminder that was to me this morning! Be mindful, in everything we do during a day. What a difference it makes. You are forced to be in the “now”. You can’t be thinking about what happened this morning with your kids or trying to come up with tonight’s menu. You have to listen, to yourself, to your teacher, child or maybe your heart. What are you hearing? Do you make that little adjustment to complete the task correctly or to be able to just do your best? It is amazing at how a little “tweak” can make all the difference. Are you mindful when someone is talking to you so you are able to “hear” the need for your support, encouragement or praise? Do you look at strangers faces and give back a small smile that might bring some light into those dull eyes?

As I continue my journey down whatever road I am suppose to travel, I need to remember to be mindful of my purpose. I need to look, listen and adjust when the things needing to be engaged are not working correctly. I will practice being in the “now” and not worry about things I have yet to see. I am grateful that I went to class this morning and that my instructor is such a wise woman.
